Bring the actual products

Include prescriptions, over-the-counter medicines, antacids, vitamins, mineral powders, fortified drinks, herbal products, caffeine sources, and recently stopped medicines.

High-priority checks

Tizanidine is contraindicated. Ask about anticoagulants, glucose-lowering medicines, QT-risk drugs, seizure-risk medicines, NSAIDs, theophylline, clozapine, sucralfate, and phosphate binders.

Build the schedule

Mineral and antacid products may need the two-hours-before or six-hours-after separation described in the Medication Guide. Ask the pharmacist to write exact clock times.

Do not improvise

Do not stop a steroid, heart medicine, diabetes medicine, anticoagulant, or seizure medicine because it appears on a web list. The prescriber and pharmacist must balance all of the conditions being treated.
